Mammo – "Lateral"

Amsterdam-based Mammo has been quietly building one of the most distinctive bodies of work in contemporary dub techno via a constellation of aliases and self-released projects shaping his sound over the years. Lateral, following his excellent General Patterns on Short Span, is where all those identities finally converge: twelve tracks, three discs, one hundred minutes of painted techno landscapes. Three distinct orbits, each with its own gravitational pull. The first blooms with verdance, macro and teeming, carried by its own swell. The second hums and judders, mechanical and slow-burning, built to move. The third drifts into something dreamier and contemplative, closing on transcendent drone mysticism and a near-spiritual mineral atmosphere, cave-like and hushed. Immersive, inventive, radiant and precise. One of the most forward-thinking voices in the genre, at full stretch.
